You did it!

And we did it together.

Today, Governor Rauner kept his 2014 promise to the voters of Illinois and signed HB 40 as it passed the Illinois General Assembly.  It is finally the law of our land.

I want to thank each of every one of you who made a phone call (or, two or three…), wrote a letter, sent an email, staffed a table at an event, volunteered at a phone bank, walked door-to-door, participated in a demonstration and donated money to Personal PAC so we could wage this historic non-stop campaign for 11 long months. Yes, you and our partner organizations got HB 40 done for the women and families of Illinois.

I also want to thank each State Representative and Senator who voted “yes” on HB 40, as they stood up when it counted for the right to privacy, as well as the health and lives of every woman in Illinois in accessing the reproductive health care of her choice. The enduring commitment of HB 40 sponsors Heather Steans and Sara Feigenholtz has been nothing short of inspiring.

Finally, we need to thank the extraordinary leadership of Senate President John Cullerton and Speaker Mike Madigan. Without them, and YOU, HB 40 would not be the law today.

While we celebrate the passage of HB 40 today, we must turn immediately to tomorrow where some of the most anti-choice candidates ever are running for the Illinois Senate and House. They are mounting serious challenges to our Senator and Representatives who voted for HB 40 and trying to win open seats. We must not let them succeed. I hope you will join Personal PAC in the days ahead as we work non-stop to elect more pro-choice leaders across Illinois.

We did it together and I can’t thank you enough for being there every step of the way!

I remain, always in equality and choice (no exceptions),
